The Project
X Further to the decision of Qatar Government to provide restricted freedom of worship for religions other than Islam, an agreement was signed in May 2005 by the representatives of Christian Churches with the Government for a fifty year lease on an allotted land in Abu Hamour area on the outskirts of Doha. The 28 Indian Christian congregations, in which we are one, is represented by a body , “Inter Denominational Christian Church (IDCC)” to liaise with the Government and progress with the project.
It is proposed to have one complex for the various Indian Christian congregations, with individually allocated buildings in it. Accordingly we are allocated a building with 622 sq.m of area in 2 floors. The first floor is for the church with about 360 sq.m. The ground floor houses the parsonage (184 sq.m) and the remaining is our share of the common area.
Second stage Government approval has been obtained for the church building. We are now in the tendering stage of the project and construction works are expected to commence by February 2007. Project completion is expected by early 2008

Project Financial requirement
Over the last couple of years, Qatar has witnessed a construction boom, which has resulted in spiraling construction costs. 2 years back when the project was mooted, the estimated cost was about US $165,000.00 and today the escalated figure is about US $605,000.00, 50% of which is to be deposited with IDCC prior to award of contract

Project Funding
The original proposal was to generate the required funds internally from the church members and accordingly a collection of at least one month salary is initiated from all the members. Unfortunately in the present situation this will not even make up 50% of the requirement and we are forced to explore other means to mobilize required funds, viz : Appeal other CSI & Christian congregations across the world for support.
